Choosing your Book of Ra
Every edition starts from the same idea. The differences are in the reels, the lines and how the expanding symbol behaves.
Three ways the series changes the original#
The Book of Ra family is easiest to understand through what each edition adds to Classic, the 9-line game from 2005.
More lines. The Deluxe edition keeps five reels and raises the line count to 10. The Book still acts as wild and scatter, and three or more Books start 10 Free Games with one expanding symbol. It is also the edition you can try for free on this site.
A sixth reel. Book of Ra Deluxe 6 plays 10 lines on six reels. The Extra Bet option switches the sixth reel on or off, so you decide each session whether to play on five reels or six.
More expanding symbols. Book of Ra Magic keeps five reels and 10 lines, but its Free Games grow: each retrigger adds another Special Expanding Symbol, up to nine in a single round. Combinations in Magic pay from two or three matching symbols, starting on the leftmost reel.
What every edition shares#
Whichever version you open, a few things stay constant. Every edition comes from Novomatic and reaches online casinos through Greentube, the NOVOMATIC Digital Gaming and Entertainment division. In Classic, Deluxe, Deluxe 6, Magic and Deluxe 10 the Book starts the free rounds, and in the first four it also stands in for other symbols as a wild. And in every edition the free rounds bring a Special Expanding Symbol that can cover whole reels and pay on the lines in play.
The editions also share the way you play them. Classic runs in desktop and mobile browsers, and Deluxe, Deluxe 6, Magic, Deluxe 10 and Deluxe 10: Win Ways all list desktop and mobile play as well. That makes it easy to move between versions on the same device and compare them for yourself.
Two reel sets: Deluxe 10 and Win Ways#
Book of Ra Deluxe 10 is the edition for players who like a busy screen. It runs two reel sets at once: a 4x5 set with 25 lines on the left and a 12x5 set with 75 lines on the right, 100 lines in total. Coin wilds that land on the first set are copied to the second, Explorer and Mummy stacks appear on the big set, and three, four or five Books award 8, 12 or 20 Free Spins with a Special Expanding Symbol. Novomatic rates it 2 on its volatility scale, much smoother than Classic’s 5.
Book of Ra deluxe 10: Win Ways takes the same two-set layout to 10 reels and adds cascades: winning symbols are removed and new ones fall into place for as long as fresh wins form. Wilds land single, double or triple stacked and transfer from the left set to the right, and three, four or five Bonus Scatters award 8, 12 or 20 Free Games. It sits at 5 on the volatility scale. Both editions play through the partner button on this site.
The wider family#
Novomatic’s catalogue lists more titles under the Book of Ra name. Among them: Book of Ra deluxe Win Ways, Book of Ra deluxe: Win Ways Ante Bet, Book of Ra deluxe Buy Bonus, Book of Ra deluxe 10: Win Ways Buy Bonus, Book of Ra deluxe Bonus Spins, Book of Ra Mystic Fortunes and Book of Ra Temple of Gold, along with spin-offs in the Cash Connection, Thunder Cash, Xtension Link and Twin Spinner ranges.
How to pick#
- You like the classic feel: play Book of Ra Classic, or Deluxe for one more line.
- You want a bigger board: Deluxe 6 with Extra Bet, or Deluxe 10 with its two reel sets.
- You love the bonus round: Magic, where every retrigger adds an expanding symbol.
- You prefer a calmer ride: Deluxe 10, rated 2 on Novomatic’s scale.
Whichever edition you choose, the Free Games remain the heart of the game. Players looking further afield can browse slots like Book of Ra, read about the studio on the Book of Ra provider page, and open Play Book of Ra on your phone to take any edition onto a phone.
